Muslima ihram
![]() |
Ihram is a state of ritual purity and sanctity that Muslims enter into before performing the pilgrimage of Hajj or Umrah. It is a state of mind and physical state that involves a set of restrictions on one's behavior, dress, and activities. When a pilgrim enters into the state of ihram, they must wear specific clothing that consists of two white sheets or cloths for men, and modest, loose-fitting clothing for women. The purpose of this dress is to signify equality and humility before God, and to remove any distinctions between individuals based on their social status, wealth, or nationality. In the state of ihram, pilgrims are required to refrain from certain activities, such as cutting their hair or nails, using perfume or scented products, engaging in sexual activity, hunting or killing animals, and engaging in arguments or violence. The state of ihram is intended to help the pilgrim focus on their spiritual journey and become closer to God. The state of ihram is entered into by reciting a specific intention and making a formal declaration known as Talbiyah. The Talbiyah is a statement of submission and dedication to God, and it is recited repeatedly throughout the pilgrimage. The state of ihram is only lifted after the completion of the Hajj or Umrah rituals.
